Woman Lying on Beach in Venice Struck by Maintenance Vehicle

A 49-year-old woman was hospitalized Wednesday after being struck by a beach maintenance vehicle in Venice.

The unidentified woman was lying face down in the sand when she was struck around 10:30 a.m. on the Via Marina Peninsula beach, according to a new release from the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors.

The woman was transported to UCLA Medical Center in Westwood in serious condition.

The agency stated that the driver had stopped his SUV in order to survey several large pieces of debris near the shoreline that need to be removed.

As he turned his vehicle to leave the area, the SUV struck the woman, the release stated.

Lifeguards from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene.

The woman was alert and oriented following the incident, the release stated.

The driver, who was described as a veteran employee, was interviewed by police and released.

The incident was still being investigated, the release stated.
