Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Connection to Wife’s 1998 Death

Nearly two decades after the case went cold, a man was sentenced in Santa Ana to 25 years to life in state prison Friday in connection to his wife’s 1998 death, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Nuzzio Begaren, 52, was suspected of hiring a gang member to kill his wife so Begaren could collect on a $1 million life insurance policy.

Although Begaren was a suspect during the initial investigation, the case went cold until it was reopened in 2012.
