Nearly two decades after the case went cold, a man was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison Friday in connection to his wife’s 1998 death.

Nuzzio Begaren, 52, was suspected of hiring a gang member to kill his wife so Begaren could collect on a $1 million life insurance policy.

Although Begaren was a suspect during the initial investigation, the case went cold until it was reopened in 2012.
