Memorial Day events will take place all across Southern California, including on board the Battleship IOWA in San Pedro, on Monday to pay tribute to U.S. soldiers who died serving in the country’s armed forces.
The event, which was free to the general public, was slated to begin at 8:30 a.m., according to a news release.
Some of the city’s top officials were expected to be on hand for the ceremony, including Congresswoman Janice Hahn, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and L.A. City Councilman Joe Buscaino, the release stated.
As part of the Memorial Day event, tours of the ship would be free for active duty military and veterans for the day.
