Community Water Safety Festival @ 10am

Long Beach

If your youngsters can not swim, might want to make it family day at the Community Water Safety Festival in Long Beach. The event is sponsored by Make a Splash, a national child-focused water safety initiative of the USA Swimming Foundation. It’s mission is to educate parents, communities and civic leaders about the importance of learning to swim.

The Center for Disease Control reports approximately 10-people drown every day in the U.S. and at least one in five fatal drowning victims are children younger than 14.

The C-D-C reports 70-percent of African American children, 60 percent of Latino children and 40 percent of Caucasian children have little to no swimming abilities. African American children drown at a rate nearly three times higher than their Caucasian peers.
