Police in Santa Ana were searching Friday for a 4-year-old girl believed to have been abducted by her mother in violation of a court ordered child-custody agreement.
The father, who had sole custody of the girl, spent the night with the child and her mother at a local motel Thursday night, according to a news release from the Santa Ana Police Department.
When the father woke up Friday morning, he discovered that the girl and 25-year-old Rachel Ashley Marks were gone, the release stated.
The mother may be on her way to Las Vegas where she currently resides, investigators said.
Rachel Marks was described as a white female, standing 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
The child was 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 50 pounds.
She has brown hair and eyes and was last seen wearing grey skirt, white shirt with polka dots and black shoes.
The pair may be traveling in a dark colored compact SUV, possibly an Acura MDX, police said.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8390 or Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
