Explosive Device Found in Paramount Prompts Evacuations; 1 Arrested
Several buildings had to be evacuated in Paramount late Monday after an explosive device was found in a van at an apartment complex, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The discovery of the device was made in the 7200 block of Richfield (map) around 11:15 p.m., Lt. Eric Lindblom with the Sheriff’s Lakewood Station said.
About 100 residents were subsequently evacuated for several hours while a sheriff’s explosives detail investigated the incident.
Evacuations orders were lifted around 3 a.m. on Tuesday after the scene was cleared, and the displaced residents were allowed to return to their homes, according to Lindblom.
No injuries were reported.
One man has been arrested in connection with the incident, Lindblom said. His identity has not yet been released.
It was not immediately clear what charges he faced.
