Arrest Made in Thousand Oaks Theater Sexual Battery Investigation
A man suspected of sexually battering a woman at a movie theater in Thousand Oaks last month has been arrested, authorities said on Wednesday.
Hector Garcia, 18, of Moorpark, allegedly attacked the woman in a restroom stall of the Muvico Theater at 166 Hillcrest Drive (map) on May 23, according to a news release from the Thousand Oaks Police Department.
The 23-year-old victim said she was in the stall when a man slid underneath the partition and sexually battered her.
After a brief struggle, she managed to get out of the stall and her attacker fled the theater, according to police.
Authorities were looking for a man seen on surveillance video getting into the passenger side of a black sedan on the night of the incident.
As a result of media coverage, concerned citizens came forward and identified Garcia as a possible suspect, the Police Department stated in the news release.
Evidence allegedly linking Garcia to the crime was later found by investigators, the Police Department stated.
Garcia was arrested Tuesday and booked on suspicion of sexual battery by restraint and false imprisonment by violence, according to police.
Garcia’s bail was set at $250,000.
There was no information regarding a second man seen in the surveillance video that had been considered a person of interest in the case by authorities.
