This is Flag Day, a national celebration of our nation’s flag celebrated across the country as early as 1885. President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress August 3rd, 1949, designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day. June 14th was chosen because Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States on this day in 1777.

Electric Lawn Mower Exchange Program
Time is running out for residents living within the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s jurisdiction to register for the 2014 Electric Lawn Mower Exchange Program.
SCAQMD residents have an opportunity to help clean the air by exchanging an old, operable gasoline-powered lawn mower and purchasing, at a discounted rate, a new electric lawnmower. This year, you have five models to choose from, with your cost being from $100 to $250 depending on the model you choose. Pre-registration is required There will be four exchange locations scheduled. Visit the website http://www.aqmd.gov registration and location information.
Riverside residents can get their hands on one of these non-polluting electric lawnmowers, Saturday, June 14th. Folks living in the Anaheim area, Saturday, June 28th. But, again, you must register FIRST at the website.
Blue Star Museum: Gamble House

The Gamble House in Pasadena is described as an outstanding example of American Arts and Crafts style architecture. The house and furnishings were designed by Charles and Henry Greene in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company. The house, a National Historic Landmark, is owned by the City of Pasadena and operated by the University of Southern California and is open for public tours. It is also a Blue Star Museum, meaning it is one of more than two-thousand museums across the country offering FREE admission to military personnel and their families now through Labor Day.

The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 Id card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps – and up to five family members. Blue Star Museum: Route 66: The Road and the Romance

The Autry National Center is also a Blue Star Museum. Now is a good time to visit because the center brings together the lore and allure of Route 66 in a brand new exhibit about America’s Main Street. ROUTE 66: THE ROAD AND THE ROMANCE illustrates both the positive and the negative about the road which ran from Chicago to Los Angeles. Learn why the Mother Road declined, in many ways a victim of its own success. The road was decommissioned in 1985. Learn what remains and where we can still drive up to 90-percent of the Mother Road.
