Two men were wounded by gunfire early Thursday during an attempted robbery at a liquor store in the Vermont Square neighborhood of Los Angeles, authorities said.
Officers responded at 1:20 a.m. to a shooting call in the 4400 block of South Figueroa Avenue (map), about a mile south of the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said. When they arrived, the officers found the two victims, who were transported to a hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The injured men were listed in stable condition.
“The guy that works there, he had been shot in the face. … He’s a really nice guy, he’s worked there for a long time,” said a man who gave asked not to be identified. “A customer that was walking out got shot as well.”
The shooter, described as a man with a handgun, remains at large, the LAPD said.
