A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly using a slingshot to fire glass marbles at officers conducting a felony car stop in Santa Ana, authorities revealed on Friday.
The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of W. First Street, according to a news release from the Santa Ana Police Department.
Hector Luis Perez was unsuccessful in hitting any of the officers, but one marble struck the rear window of a patrol car shattering it, the release stated.
The officers being targeted were unable to see the suspect, so they called in the Orange County Sheriff’s Air support “DUKE” helicopter to make an aerial search of the neighborhood, according to the release.
Flight officers located three possible suspects in the back yard of a residence in the 1700 block of W. Second Street.
After reviewing their in-flight video surveillance system, officers were able to positively identify Perez, police said.
The 37-year-old was booked for multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon against police officers and felony vandalism.
