Peanut Named 2014 World’s Ugliest Dog
A badly burned, very ugly mutt of an unknown breed was named the 2014 World’s Ugliest Dog, the Sonoma-Marin Fair announced on Facebook late Friday night.
“He doesn’t have lips anymore. His eyelids are also gone, so he can’t close his eyes, so his eyes water. The tears drain into his nose and make snot bubbles. That adds to his character,” owner Holly Chandler told CNN.
Peanut was badly burned and abused before Chandler rescued him from a shelter, CNN reported.
He was believed to be a Chihuahua-Shitzu mix, Getty reported.
“He’s my baby … I don’t see him every day as being that ugly, but I guess the judges thought so,” Chandler said.
Peanut and Chandler live in Greenville, N.C., and will now share a four-foot trophy and the $1,500 grand prize.
The ugliest dog competition took place at the Sonoma-Marin fairgrounds in Petaluma, Calif.
The contest is about having fun with “some wonderful characteristics” and showing that the contestants are in fact beautiful, according to the fairgrounds website.
