Possible Shooting, Hostage Situation in Walnut Park Under Investigation

Authorities were searching for a man who may have shot a gun in a Walnut Park families home leading to reports of a possible hostage situation Saturday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

A hostage situation was reported to the LASD Century Station around midnight, station Lt. Jason Wolak said.

“A family had taken to a bathroom because they had heard what they believed were shots fired, possibly from another family member who was downstairs,” Wolak said.

Residents in the area of Seville Avenue and Hope Street (map) were evacuated from around 1 to 5 a.m., according to authorities.

Authorities believe the shooter may be the brother of the woman who reported the situation.

He was described as a man in his 20s who may have fled on a bicycle.

No injuries were reported.
