San Diego Police Make an Arrest in Christmas Eve Triple Murder

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing two brothers and one of their fiancées on Christmas Eve in San Diego, police announced on Saturday.

Salvatore Belvedere, 22, and Ilona Flint, 22, were found shot to death near a Mission Valley shopping center last year on Dec. 24, while Gianni Belvedere, 24, was declared missing that day, according to a news release from the San Diego Police Department.

The older brother was found dead inside the trunk of a vehicle in Riverside on January 17, according to the release.

Carlo Gallopa Mercado was taken into custody in the 8700 block of Westmore Road (map) in San Diego on Friday, the release stated.

No further details of the arrest were offered.

Mercado has been booked into San Diego County Central Jail on three counts of murder, according to the release.

San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman was scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday morning to discuss the arrest.
