The search for a missing vehicle in Valencia led to the investigation of a suspicious package that forced the evacuation of a shopping center on Monday.

The incident began around 5:30 p.m. when deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Station were called to the 23700 block of Del Monte Drive regarding a stolen Toyota Camry, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies located the vehicle in a parking lot near a Whole Foods Market and Kohl’s department store on Valencia Boulevard.  Inside the stolen vehicle deputies saw a suspicious package that appeared to contain wires and other suspicious items, the release stated.

The bomb squad was called in and a large portion of the parking lot area, including some local businesses were evacuated as a precaution.

By 9 p.m. investigators had determined there were no explosives.
