Perris Councilman Who Called 911 to Report Theft Is Arrested After Meth Found in Hotel Room
A Perris City Councilman who called police to report a theft on Tuesday was instead arrested after he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, authorities said.
Officers responded to a hotel located near the 500 block of Redlands Boulevard (map) at around 7:30 a.m. after Julio Rodriguez’s 911 call, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the 28-year-old councilman displaying “symptoms consistent with being under the influence of a controlled substance,” a news release from the Sheriff’s Department stated.
Officers who searched Rodriguez’s room also found drug paraphernalia and a small quantity of methamphetamine, according to the release.
Rodriguez was taken into custody and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, the release stated.
His bail was set at $5,000.
