A California Department of Public Safety officer was recovering on Thursday after being attacked and hit with a gun by two men in the Exposition Park Rose Garden across the street from the University of Southern California campus.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Wednesday night in the 700 block of State Street (map), according to Officer Venegas with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The injured officer was put on a gurney and taken away by ambulance, video from the scene showed.
His condition was not immediately known.
A tweet from USC around 10:20 p.m. stated that there was police activity in Exposition Park, and that the area should be avoided. The tweet added that no one associated with the university was involved.
LAPD officers and K-9’s were dispatched to the scene to search for the attackers, who were only described as two black men, Venegas said.
Police left the area shortly after 1 a.m., according to a separate tweet from USC.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
