2 in Custody Following Hours-Long Standoff in Downtown Los Angeles

Two people were in custody Tuesday following an hours-long standoff at an apartment building in downtown Los Angeles.

The incident began about 5:40 a.m. when officers attempted to serve a man with a felony arrest warrant at an apartment in the 700 block of West 7th Street (map), Officer Lilliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The man, who was wanted for burglary, may have been armed with a shotgun, according to a tweet from Capt. John McMahon of the Los Angeles Police Department.

There also may have been a woman inside the apartment, McMahon stated in the tweet.

The standoff came to an end after nearly 8 hours when authorities took two people into custody at about 1:30 p.m., Sgt. Gonzalez with the LAPD said.

The incident forced the closure of of West 7th Street between South Flower Street and South Grand Avenue, and Hope Street between West 6th Street and West 8th Street.
