A suspected DUI driver was arrested following a hit-and-run in North Hollywood early Saturday that claimed the life of a motorcyclist, police said.

The crash occurred when one vehicle made an illegal turn in front of the other just after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Magnolia and Lankershim boulevards (map), according to Sgt. David Delgado with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

It was not clear, however which one made the illegal turn, Delgado said.

The car fled the scene, but a quick-thinking witness followed the vehicle and was able to point out its location to police, leading to the arrest of one man, according to Delgado. He was taken into custody without incident.

The driver was suspected of being under the influence at the time of the crash, LAPD Officer Guzman told KTLA.

The motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital and was initially said to be on life support, but later died, according to Guzman.

No further information was available.

KTLA’s Geoff Peters and Carly Bagingito contributed to this report.
