South L.A. Crash Involving Big Rig, Truck Leaves 1 Dead

An investigation was underway into a crash between a truck and a big rig that left a driver dead on Saturday in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles, authorities said.

The call came in just after 2:30 a.m. of a two vehicle-collision in the area of Gage and Parmelee avenues (map), according to California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Bishop.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene, Bishop said. The person's identity has not been released.

It was not immediately know if the driver of the big rig was injured, or if anyone else was in the truck.

No further information was available.
