Man Taken Into Custody After Carjacking, Auto Theft in Venice Area, Police Say

A man was taken into custody Sunday after allegedly carjacking one vehicle and stealing another in the Venice area of Los Angeles, police said.

The incident began about 4:30 p.m., when the suspect forced occupants to exit a vehicle near the intersection of Mildred and Beach avenues, said a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect drove away from the scene and struck two vehicles, damaging them and the one he was driving, according to the spokesman. An occupant of one of the vehicles that was struck sustained a minor injury.

The man then abandoned the first vehicle and stole another one before officers apprehended him in the area of  Emerson and West Manchester avenues in Westchester, the LAPD said.
