We Care Wednesday Children’s Book Drive

Gayle Anderson was live in Costa Mesa for the “WE CARE WEDNESDAY CHILDREN’S BOOK DRIVE” at the Orange County Fair.  The 2014 Orange County Fair is now open through Sunday, August 10th.

This year’s fair, with the theme, “Summer Starts Here,” consists of 23 days of food, exhibits, rides, animals and shopping. With all of the discounts, promotions and deals offered by the OC Fair, all of this fun can be enjoyed without breaking your bank.

Fairgoers can save on admission and give back to the community by participating in the “We Care Wednesday” weekly donation drives, which offer FREE admission and one FREE carnival ride per person with the proper donation. Donation requirements change weekly. Click HERE for this year’s schedule and guidelines.

Today’s “We Care Wednesday” donation drive is a children’s book drive benefiting benefiting THINK Together and the Children & Families Commission of Orange County Early Literacy and Math Program. Donate 1 new children’s book or 3 gently used children’s books and receive free admission plus one FREE carnival ride per person from Noon to 3 PM TODAY.

The Children and Families Commission of Orange County established the Early Literacy Program to implement and support successful literacy and reading awareness programs for children since reading to children every day builds language and learning skills for life. Since access to books and showing parents the importance of early literacy are some of the most effective strategies in helping underprivileged children to start school prepared to succeed, the Early Literacy Program through its Gently Used Book Program encourages and solicits donations of gently used books that are then sorted by age, rehabilitated and redistributed back out into the community.

THINK Together, the nation’s leading provider of extended day learning time programs, provides books and waiting room volunteers to dozens of Reach Out and Read sites in Orange County, which are coordinated by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Orange County chapter. Reach Out and Read is a cost-efficient, evidence-based national program that uses the existing healthcare infrastructure to promote early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. In addition, THINK Together currently serves about 50,000 children and families in Orange County through the Early Literacy Program.

Please note: Promotions are honored only during their specified time frame. Please prepare to arrive early. Don’t let  traffic or lines keep you from enjoying these popular discounts and deals. “We Care Wednesday” donations will NOT be accepted at Gate 5 off of Arlington Drive. Visit the Blue, Green and Yellow Gates to make donations.
