A suspicious package found near the pool prompted a bomb squad response and the temporary evacuation of a Marina del Rey hotel and nearby beach Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene in the 4100 block of Admiralty Way (map) about 10:15 a.m., according to Supervisor Rick Flores.

A call had come in to the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Department station about a half hour earlier after a suspicious package was found in the pool area of the Jamaica Bay Inn, according to Sgt. Michael Carriles.

The hotel was evacuated, and a bomb squad was en route, Carriles said. The nearby area of Mother’s Beach was also cleared, he said.

The scene was declared safe shortly before noon and the package was found not to contain an explosive device.
