An 18-year-old man suspected in multiple sexual assaults and strong arm robberies in the Redondo Beach area has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

Gilberto Lopez-Quinonez, of Torrance, was arrested by police Saturday morning after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who was on the beach just south of the Avenue I lifeguard tower, the City of Redondo Beach Public Information Office announced in a news release.

Detectives believe Lopez-Quinonez was involved in at least one other sexual assault and strong arm robberies that took place in the same general area as Saturday’s alleged attack, the news release stated.

All of the alleged attacks occurred during the late evening and early morning hours and involved female victims, the public information office stated.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office has filed seven felony counts against Lopez-Quinonez for the sexual assault, according to the news release.

Lopez-Quinonez was being held on $700,000 bail and was due to appear in court on Aug. 15.

Police have asked that anyone who might have been a victim of Lopez-Quinonez to contact authorities at 310-379-2477 ext. 2714.
