Five pedestrians were injured when an elderly driver collided with them while trying to parallel park outside a cafe in Palo Alto on Thursday, according to police.
The driver, who was described as being in his 90s, was trying to park in front of a restaurant a few blocks from Stanford University when he may have accidentally accelerated and hit a parked car, the Palo Alto Police Department stated in a news release.
The man’s 2010 Nissan four-door sedan drove up onto the sidewalk, colliding with the pedestrians.
The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. One pedestrian had major injuries while the four others and the driver had minor injuries, police said.
All five pedestrians were hospitalized.
There was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved and the driver had not not been arrested or cited, police said.
The crash remained under investigation.
