Man Arrested in Last Month’s Deadly Shooting on 91 Freeway in Anaheim
A 45-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with a deadly shooting on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim last month.
David Arzate Cabrera was taken into custody at 7:30 p.m. and booked on suspicion of murder, according to Anaheim Police Department spokesman, Lt. Bob Dunn.
He was also suspected of possessing a controlled substance and a loaded firearm, Dunn said.
The Anaheim man was being held on $1 million bail.
The shooting occurred on the westbound 91 Freeway east of the 57 Freeway shortly after 8 p.m. on July 14.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found two men wounded inside a white Ford F-150.
Agustin Villegas was riding in the passenger seat of his cousin’s truck with their two teenage sons when he was fatally hit.
The father of four died at the scene. His 42-year-old cousin was also wounded, but survived.
The 13 and 15-year-old boys had been sitting in the backseat and were not injured.
The shooting shut down the entire westbound 91 Freeway at Kraemer Boulevard for several hours as Anaheim police and the California Highway Patrol investigated the incident.
Correction: an earlier version of the story gave the incorrect age of Cabrera. The post has been corrected.
