Man Confined to Wheelchair Dies After Apparent Assault Outside Riverside Barber Shop

Homicide detectives were trying to determine if a man confined to a wheelchair had been assaulted before he was found dead outside a barber shop in Riverside early Sunday morning, police said.

The man’s body was discovered in the 3300 block of Iowa Avenue (map) just after 4:30 a.m., a Riverside Police Department news release stated.

It was not immediately clear how he died, but the victim appeared to have been assaulted, according to the release.

He was described as a transient, and had been known to solicit money from patrons frequenting the business complex where his body was found, police said in the release.

The victim’s identity has not been released yet.

Investigators were looking for witnesses who were in the area between midnight until the time the victim was discovered.
