A hit-and-run driver was detained when a second driver chased him down after both vehicles struck a man, critically injuring him, in Hollywood Saturday morning.
A man in his 40s was struck by a Mini Cooper and Jaguar while he was crossing Santa Monica Boulevard near the Arena Night Club (map) around 2:30 a.m., according to police.
The driver of the Mini Cooper fled the scene and the Jaguar driver followed him, allegedly convincing him to pull over near Seward Street.
The hit-and-run driver drove a “few” blocks and fled on foot before being detained, Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Ramos said.
The driver of the Jaguar also assisted the victim, who was hospitalized and underwent surgery.
The victim was originally listed in critical condition, but upgraded to stable condition as of 8 a.m.
The possible role of alcohol was being investigated.
The driver of the Jaguar was questioned and released.
