An investigation was underway Thursday after a "badly decomposed" body was discovered on the 605 Freeway in Lakewood, but authorities did not suspect foul play was involved.
The body was found by a Caltrans worker around 1:30 a.m. in a storm drain on the freeway just north of Carson Street, a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated.
Investigators were working to determine how the adult male died, but evidence seemed to indicate that the death was "non-criminal in nature," the release stated.
It was not immediately clear how the body got into the storm drain.
A SigAlert was issued by CHP, and the carpool lane on both the north and southbound freeway were temporarily closed ahead of the morning commute because of the investigation.
Anyone with information about this incident was asked to call the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
