The child was riding his bicycle southbound on a sidewalk in the 300 block of North San Gabriel Avenue (map) on Monday when a dark, older model van stopped in front of him, according to a news release from the Azusa Police Department.

A man exited the vehicle, approached the child from behind, grabbed him and pulled him toward the van, police said in the release.

The boy struggled with the would-be abductor and was able to get away, the release stated. He was not injured.

The man fled in the van with another person who was driving. He was described by police as being between the ages of 20 and 40, having a dark complexion and wearing dark clothing, according to the release. He was also believed to have a shaved head with short side burns, a moustache and goatee.

No description was provided for the driver.

Anyone with information related to the kidnapping investigation was asked to call the Azusa police Detective Bureau at 626-812-3200.
