Police were searching for a hit-and-run driver on Tuesday who left the scene of a crash that left two people badly injured in Santa Ana.

The collision took place in the intersection of North Broadway and West Santa Ana Boulevard (map) at about 6:52 p.m. on Monday, the Santa Ana Police Department stated in a news release.

A man driving a 2000 Nissan Xterra with his wife in the passenger seat was already in the intersection headed northbound when a car traveling westbound crashed into them, police stated.

The impact from the car forced the Nissan to drive off the road and into a tree. The man and his wife sustained “traumatic” injuries and were taken to an area hospital, according to the news release.

The driver of the car made no attempt to stop or check on the couples’ injuries before fleeing the scene, police stated.

Authorities were searching for a light-green 1998 Dodge Stratus with a license plate number of 6TUK359 that was believed to be involved in the crash.

Anyone who has seen the vehicle or has information about the crash was asked to call Investigator Bao at 714-245-8214 or Orange County Crime Stoppers 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
