A woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly stabbing another woman to death in Whittier, authorities said.

Deputies responded to call reporting a “woman down” around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 11500 block of Obert Avenue (map), according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

They arrived to find paramedics treating the victim for multiple stab wounds, the release said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, and later identified as Michelle Alexis Young by the L.A. County coroner’s office.

A witness told deputies that when the victim was approached by another woman, an argument ensued and escalated into a physical altercation. The assailant then produced a knife, stabbed the victim several times and fled the location, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Vanessa Rebecca Cella, 28, was later arrested, authorities said. She was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
