Thief Steals Crucifix From Historic Neighborhood Church in Oxnard

Police in Oxnard were searching Thursday for the thief responsible for stealing a treasured icon from a century-old neighborhood church.

The theft occurred on Wednesday afternoon and was captured by a surveillance camera.

The video was grainy, but showed a man entering Santa Clara Catholic Church in the 300 block of South E Street around 1:50 p.m.

Above the alter, in the 111-year-old church hung a 22 inch tall crucifix that served as a focal point for the congregation.

In the video, the thief can be seen grabbing the crucifix and running run away with it.

He was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, with a shaved head and large, bushy mustache.
