Boy Arrested on Suspicion of Stealing Car After LAPD Pursuit on Surface Streets in South L.A.

A boy was taken into custody on suspicion of stealing a car after a brief police pursuit along surface streets in South Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.

Multiple Los Angeles Police Department patrol cars followed a red Nissan sedan at high speed at about 1:15 p.m., video from Sky5 showed.

The Nissan blew through stop signs and traffic signals before two people emerged from the vehicle when it pulled over in front of a home.

A young woman got out and surrendered to police, and a young man got out and laid down on the pavement, holding a backpack. Both were taken into custody, aerial video showed.

A juvenile male, the suspected driver, was taken into custody on suspicion of stealing the car, LAPD Officer Sara Faden said Monday evening. The passenger, a juvenile female, was detained and then released, Faden said.

The pursuit ended near Towne Avenue and East 76th Place (map).
