A body was found Thursday by search teams looking for a missing AIG executive who disappeared one week ago during a business trip to Palm Desert.

Authorities had not officially identified the body, but family members issued a statement on Facebook confirming the remains were those of Omar Meza.

"We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza. He was a very loved son, husband, brother & friend. We would like to take this time to grieve his passing and ask that everyone please respect our privacy at this time"

The family also reached out to all those who had helped in the weeklong search effort.

"We would like to thank all of the supporters this past week. It brings tears to our eyes to see how well-loved Omar was, he will be missed by many."

The body was discovered in the 74800 block of Country Club Drive, according to a tweet from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Diver's pulled the remains from a pond on the golf course at the JW Marriott hotel where the 33-year-old was last seen on surveillance video around 11 p.m. last Thursday.

The cause of death would be determined by the coroner's office, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Department.

A news conference scheduled for Friday at the hotel was cancelled in the wake of the discovery.

Anyone with information concerning the investigation was asked to call the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760-836-1600.
