Heavy downpours fell in parts of the San Fernando Valley Friday afternoon as a passing low-pressure system brought some thunder and lightning to the region.

Doppler radar images showed strong storm activity in Burbank and Sun Valley as of 3 p.m.

The heavy showers could lead to dangerous driving conditions on local freeways.

Another pocket of thunder and lightning storms appeared to be developing near Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica.

People at the beach should take precautions and stay away from the water in case of a lightning strike.

The storm system was expected to bring a continued chance of showers through Friday evening.

Forecasters called for dry, warmer conditions beginning Saturday.
