An investigation was underway Friday morning after a man was found fatally shot in the Watts neighborhood of South Los Angeles, authorities said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department at 3:41 a.m. received a call reporting a “man down” in the 1200 block of East 106th Street, said LAPD Sgt. Angela McGee.

Fire officials notified the Los Angeles Police Department that the man had been shot and was found dead at the scene, McGee said.

The victim, identified only as a black man in his late 30s or early 40s, lived in the neighborhood and did not have any gang affiliations, the LAPD said.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting.
