One person died and another was injured after two vehicles caught fire on the eastbound 60 Freeway in Monterey Park, causing multiple lanes on the roadway to be closed.
Sky5 was overhead as firefighters worked to extinguish two vehicle fires on the freeway near South Atlantic Boulevard around 5:50 a.m.
It was unclear what led to a two-vehicle crash that apparently caused both vehicles to become fully engulfed in flames.
One person died and another sustained minor injuries, L.A. County Fire Department officials said.
It was unclear if they were in the same vehicle or if other people were involved.
A SigAlert was issued following the crash, warning that all but one lane was closed, according to tweets from the California Highway Patrol. A second lane was reopened around 6:30 a.m.
The fires were extinguished, but authorities remained on the scene mopping up and investigating the incident.
