Parnell, 18, was swept away by a large wave near Thousand Steps Beach on Feb. 8.

The teen was walking along the rocks with three other high school friends when the swell hit him and sent him into the ocean.

Parnell’s disappearance prompted and extensive search, but efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.

Parnell’s body was found Wednesday in a rocky area of Shell Beach, about one-half mile south of 1000 Steps Beach, according to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

“It’s Ash Wednesday and God has provided. My boy is coming home,” Jennifer Parnell, the teen’s mother told a chaplain Wednesday night, according to Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday to determine an official cause of death.
