A pedestrian was hospitalized and a driver detained after a vehicle struck a pedestrian in Hollywood early Friday morning, officials said.

The pedestrian was hospitalized and appeared to be in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Hollywood Boulevard near Whitley Avenue (map) around 2:50 a.m., officials at the scene said.

A man, identified by on-scene officials as the driver, was handcuffed and put in the back of a patrol car around 3:40 a.m., video of the scene showed.

A silver Mercedes remained parked against a curb with damage to its front end where the bumper was half hanging off.

At least two other men could be seen sitting on the curb next to the car while Los Angeles Police Department officers investigated the scene.
