The Los Angeles Police Department officer was in the area of Rainbow Glen Drive and Swallow Court around 10:15 a.m. when the shooting occurred, a news release from the Sheriff's Department stated.

No injuries were reported.

According to LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar, the department had “no reason to believe” that the 25-year-veteran of LAPD had been “identified as a police officer” prior to the shooting.

The detained individual was being questioned about his involvement with a possible assault with a deadly weapon incident, according to the sheriff's department.

He was cooperating with investigators, sheriff's officials said.
