Police early Monday morning shot and wounded an armed man in Inglewood, officials said.

Officers responded about 1 a.m. to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 900 block of South Ash Avenue (map), said Lt. Scott Collins of the Inglewood Police Department. They arrived at the location and were immediately confronted by a man armed with an unknown weapon, the lieutenant said.

Police opened fire, striking the man, Collins said. He was taken to a hospital, where his condition was unknown.

A multiagency investigation was being conducted by the Police Department’s internal affairs unit.
