Lancaster Woman Killed in Her Bed When Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Home

A Lancaster woman was killed as she slept in her bedroom late Sunday night when a truck driven by a suspected drunk driver crashed through the wall of her home and ran her over, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 10:55 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Avenue J-12 (map),  when the driver of a Toyota pickup truck hit several parked cars before careening into the house and striking the woman, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The victim was found in her bed, underneath the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

As neighbors rushed to the scene to try to help, one woman recalled seeing the truck's driver walking around in a daze.

“He came out and he was asking what happened? What’s Going on?” neighbor Alice Brass said.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Aaron Daniel Benson, of Lancaster, was arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol, according the Sheriff's Department.

Benson was previously convicted of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher on Oct. 25, 2011, according to the

Benson is being held on $1 million bail, the Sheriff's Department stated.

A neighbor said the victim was about 70 years old and liked to garden in her yard.
