A 26-year-old man who died when the vehicle he was driving collided with a commuter bus in Bloomington was identified Monday.

Pedro Lira of Fontana died less than an hour after the collision, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at Valley Boulevard and Linden Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County coroner’s office.

A preliminary investigation indicated the motorist was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to yield to the turning bus, a California Highway Patrol officer said Sunday.

Video from the scene showed a white Dodge Charger with its front half crumpled into the back right side of the bus.

Authorities had said five people on the bus received minor injuries, but the coroner’s office said Monday that no one was injured other than Lira.
