A Novato, Calif., man was killed Wednesday when a 40-foot-long, 8,000-pound section of pipe crushed him at a construction site, authorities said.
Jared Overfield, 28, was working for an engineering contractor at a construction project off Highway 101 in Petaluma in Sonoma County, where he was moving the pipe from a forklift, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
Overfield was in front of the forklift when the concrete-reinforced steel pipe suddenly rolled forward and crushed him.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the accident.
