Gayle Anderson is live in Lynwood because this is NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK (pointsoflight.org), a program established by Points of Light in 1974, which is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. It’s about demonstrating to the nation that by working together, we have the fortitude to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals.
National Volunteer Week is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change – discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to make a difference.
Sit n’ Sleep along with Habitat for Humanity volunteers are rolling up their sleeves to help carry out construction on a new housing development project on Magnolia Avenue in Lynwood. Once complete, the building will house seven Habitat for Humanity families, who worked hard for their new housing by contributing 200-500 hours of “sweat equity” by volunteering on other Habitat builds.
