Highway Patrol officers were in pursuit of a speeding SUV traveling on surface streets in the mountains above Temecula in the Inland Empire on Monday night.

The chase started in Arrowhead for a failure to stop, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of SUV led officers along the 10 Freeway to the 15 Freeway before getting off in the Lake Elsinore area.

Once on surface streets, the driver could be seen running red lights, blowing through stop signs and driving on the wrong ride of the road, aerial video showed.

The driver eventually began driving up into the mountains in the Temecula area.

When they reached De Luz, in San Diego County, the driver pulled over and, along with a passenger, ran away on foot, according to Lt. Nelson with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The two individuals were eventually found and arrested, sheriff's officials said.
