A pursuit came to a dramatic conclusion early Thursday after a possible DUI driver crashed into a tree in the Compton area and appeared to surrender to authorities.

The pursuit initially began on the eastbound 105 Freeway in Lynwood, according to Lt. Moss with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

It continued on the 710 Freeway before going to the 91 Freeway and returning to the 710 in Compton, Moss said.

The driver, who appeared to be traveling at high speeds, eventually crashed the vehicle after making a wide right turn on a surface street near Rosecrans Avenue and colliding with a tree at about 4:35 a.m., aerial video over the scene showed.

At least three law enforcement personnel had their weapons drawn as the driver got out of the red car and onto the ground, video from Sky5 showed. The driver was then placed against the vehicle in handcuffs.

It was not immediately known whether he had been injured. No other occupants appeared to be inside the car.

According to Moss, the driver was originally wanted for possible DUI and reckless driving.
