A 51-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly trying to stab a couple sitting in a parked vehicle near the Charter Oak Park in Camarillo, sheriff’s officials said.

Michael Benson was allegedly armed with a sword when he approached the man and woman around 1:45 a.m. and began hitting their vehicle, according to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Benson then allegedly used the sword to shatter both windows and attempted to stab the victims, according to the release.

By the time sheriff’s deputies arrived, Benson had thrown the sword on the ground.

He was arrested and transported to a hospital for medical evaluation, the release stated.

Benson was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for attempted murder and felony vandalism.

He was currently being held on $1 million bail.
