Gayle Anderson was live in Glendale with a preview of the BOWLING FOR RHINOS fundraiser.

For more than 20 years, the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) has been uniting people across the U.S. with communities in Asia and Africa to save rhinos and the countless other species that share their habitat from extinction. As the poaching crisis has escalated in recent years, grassroots efforts remain the most reliable source of support.

BOWLING FOR RHINOS is the AAZK’s major fundraising effort. The annual bowl-a-thons have generated more than $5 million to protect rhinos and their habitat. During the past six years, the Los Angeles Chapter of the AAZK has raised more money than any other single institution—$217,000.

BOWLING FOR RHINOS funding has become a vital, stable source of support for field efforts—funding rhino protection units (RPUs) and community development projects that transform local people into guardians of animals and habitat. These investments are becoming critical as rhino numbers continue to dwindle. Blood money from poaching is frequently tied to narcotics and illegal weapons dealers, crime syndicates, and even terrorist groups—so saving rhinos also means protecting people.
